Working for You from Home

April 1, 2020

Dear Friend:

I hope that you and your family are staying safe and healthy. We’re all a bit anxious and bored at home, but it’s vital that we stop the spread of Coronavirus. I’m still focused on key issues thought I’d send a brief update.

Testing, Testing, 1,2,3…

On Monday, Governor Hogan announced a stay-at-home order as well as three new COVID-19 testing locations. I was shocked that Montgomery County– the most populous jurisdiction with the most confirmed cases– was completely overlooked in his remarks. In a TV interview with WJLA , I expressed my disappointment. In addition, I contacted the Governor’s Office, urging that he include Montgomery County and recommended the Rockville Vehicle Emissions station as an ideal site. In the meantime, MedStar Health has stepped up and opened a drive-thru testing site in Bethesda . New state-sanctioned centers are accessible only with an appointment and a referral from a health care provider:

  • Bel Air VEIP ( 1 hour 20 mins from Rockville City Hall)
  • FedExField in Prince George’s County (31 mins from Rockville City Hall)
  • Glen Burnie VEIP ( 50 mins from Rockville City Hall)
  • Waldorf VEIP ( 1 hour and 4 mins from Rockville City Hall)
Defending Democracy in a Time of Crisis
Yesterday, Maryland Matters published my column highlighting concerns regarding the upcoming elections. It is likely that our June 2nd primary will be conducted using vote-by-mail. I agree with President Ferguson and Speaker Jones that there should be some in-person voting sites . These centers are needed for voters with disabilities, the homeless, and others who cannot use mail-in ballots. The State Board of Elections meets tomorrow to finalize its recommendations. I encourage you to consider  contacting the Governor  and sharing your thoughts via social media.

Conversing with Constituents
Curious to learn more about my accomplishments in Annapolis? Join me and my District 17 House colleagues for a digital Town Hall on Monday, April 6 at 7:30 pm via Zoom. This is an opportunity to learn more about our work during the historic 2020 legislative session and ask questions. I will discuss my bills to upgrade our 9-1-1 services; reform our ethics and elections; expand access to telehealth; and more. You can find additional information and RSVP to get the link to join us Monday evening!

I have created a page on my website dedicated to the latest resources and COVID-19 news. Also, consider following me on Facebook , Twitter , and Instagram for live videos, photos, and informative posts. You can always send questions or comments to me via email.

Best,

Cheryl
