The Fall 2022 Kagan Senatorial Scholarship Application deadline has passed. Check back in October for information about Spring 2023 Scholarships!

(Students must confirm that they reside in District 17 to ensure eligibility.)

Legislative Scholarships are an excellent opportunity for undergrad and graduate students. Sen. Cheryl C. Kagan (Gaithersburg & Rockville) accepts applications for both fall and spring semesters. To be considered, you must submit the required materials.

In order to be eligible for a Senatorial Scholarship, you must have completed the 2022-23 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) through the U.S. Department of Education (was due on March 1). General information on Senatorial Scholarships is available on the Maryland Higher Education Commission’s website.

Kagan Senatorial Scholarships are awarded based on both need and merit. They can be used at Maryland higher ed institutions. The Scholarship Selection Committee (comprised of Gaithersburg & Rockville residents and activists) gives preference to candidates who:
  • engage in volunteer service to the community in any capacity;
  • have a verifiable history of voting (any party, any candidate), if eligible; and
  • submit a well-written essay as required.
Awards are renewed annually for up to four years of a student’s tenure at their institution of higher education.
