#MACoCon Goes Beyond Books to Talk Libraries and All They Offer

At the 2023 MACo Summer Conference, an expert panel discussed the evolving role of libraries, like providing wraparound services and workforce development.

The 2023 MACo Summer Conference panel, “Books and Beyond: Libraries of the 21st Century,” leaders in innovation in public library programming and services explored how county leaders can best support their local library systems’ new and expanding roles. 

Panel speakers included:

  • Andrea BerstlerExecutive Director, Carroll County Public Library System 
  • Natalie Edington, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Baltimore County Public Library System 
  • Irene M. Padilla, State Librarian
  • Heidi Daniel, President and CEO, Enoch Pratt Library System

Moderator: The Honorable Senator Cheryl Kagan

Topics of discussion included workforce and small business support offered by the Carroll County Public Library System, wraparound and social services offered by the Baltimore County Public Library System, and legal services and peer-to-peer support offered by the Enoch Pratt Library System in Baltimore City. Additionally, Irene Padilla, Maryland State Librarian, discussed a number of state resources to help local library systems go “beyond books.”
