Winding Down and Vaxx-ing Up!

April 25, 2021

Dear Friend:

Almost a third of Montgomery County residents have been fully vaccinated and nearly half have received at least one dose. Every shot that goes into an arm gets us one step closer to life after the pandemic. With everyone over 16 now eligible to register for the vaccine, I hope that your family & friends have made your appointments!

Wrapping Up the Legislative Session
My “End of Session” letters have been sent to constituents who contacted my office. It’s always helpful to hear your opinions on pending legislation. For a full recap of what passed and what didn’t, read my “Legislative Wrap Up” on my website.

Additionally, please join me and the D/17 Delegates for a Virtual Town Hall on Tuesday, May 11th at 7:30pm to hear more about the 2021 Session.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The deadline for my Senatorial Scholarship Application is this Wednesday, April 28th at 5pm. Each semester, I present awards to deserving students who undergo a rigorous application process with my Senatorial Scholarship Selection Committee. These volunteers live and/or work in Rockville or Gaithersburg and appreciate the chance to meet our talented students. If you know someone eligible, please be sure they know about this opportunity!

Celebrating Mother Earth

April is Earth Month! Montgomery County continues to host a plethora of events to help our planet. You might want to check out a webinar on composting and “plogging” (jogging while picking up litter), but there are countless public and private ways to learn and make a difference. If you are looking for an opportunity to clean up your community before Earth Month comes to a close, check with the Montgomery Parks Volunteer Services Office.

Please follow me on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for photos and posts. My website has information about local vaccine efforts, internships, scholarships, and more. Subscribe to my YouTube Channel to be notified of new episodes of “Kibbitzing with Kagan.” And, you can always send questions or comments to me via email.

Best,

Cheryl

PS: Last Monday, Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd. I am relieved that justice was served in this case, and I am hopeful that Maryland’s new police reform laws will make a difference and inspire Congress to act as well.
