KAGAN “KIBBITZES” WITH 8 DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES FOR GOVERNOR
A year ago, Senator Cheryl Kagan posted the first episode of her podcast/vlog, “Kibbitzing with Kagan.” (“Kibbitz” is Yiddish for “chat.”) To date, she has recorded and shared 58 video interviews with guests ranging from Senate President Bill Ferguson to AFL-CIO President Donna Edwards, Congressman David Trone, Treasurer Nancy Kopp, and nonprofit leaders working in food, housing, mental health, and historic preservation.
As we watch the dynamic campaign to become our next Governor unfold, Kagan invited each of the 9 experienced, passionate, and thoughtful Democratic candidates to join her for a “kibbitz” over the course of several weeks. Ultimately, Kagan spoke with 8 of them.
Senator Kagan stated, “On their website and at public events, candidates share their professional background and policy positions. My podcast will offer voters a chance to gain a more personal perspective on each of the candidates.”
Starting tomorrow at 9pm and every evening for the following 7 days, Kagan will post one of the “Gubernatorial Edition” episodes of her podcast. The 30-minute chats will be released in alphabetical order on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and on her Sen. Cheryl Kagan Facebook page.
Each campaign was contacted multiple times by phone, email, and text.
This description was shared with each of the 9 Democratic candidates & staffers:
- The video interviews will be recorded on Zoom;
- Each chat will last 30 minutes;
- There will be no “gotcha” or trick questions;
- This will not focus on policy or include parts of your stump speech;
- I am the only one with access to the questions;
- Our chat will feature a range of questions that will enable voters to get to know you a bit better. The questions are designed for short, informal answers;
- The same questions will be asked of each of the participating candidates;
- No recordings will be released until after all candidate chats have been completed;
- The videos will be released in alphabetical order to reinforce fairness;
- I’ll use my Senator FB page, YouTube Channel, and Twitter to share the videos (Apple podcast recordings will be posted the following morning);
- Campaigns and candidate supporters will be encouraged to share the link(s) as they like; and
- We will add a slide with candidates’ social media links at the end for viewers to learn more about your campaign.
According to Kagan, “These ‘kibbitzes’ will offer an opportunity for Maryland Democrats to get to know the candidates personally. I included a broad range of fun questions and enjoyed my conversations with the candidates!”
NOTE: KAGAN POSTPONED THE RELEASE OF THESE EPISODES BY ONE WEEK IN DEFERENCE TO THE PASSING OF CHRISTA “CIS” BEVERLY, RUSHERN BAKER’S BELOVED WIFE.
