Dear Friend:

As of midnight on Monday, the 447th session of the Maryland General Assembly adjourned “Sine Die.” My colleagues agreed that this was one of the most difficult and complicated sessions in eons. Despite the challenges, I am incredibly proud of the collaboration and compromise that yielded laws to strengthen our State.

Defending Our Values

Clouded by the insanity of the “Trump/Musk” Administration, on top of a large budget shortfall, we had to make some tough choices. We passed legislation to combat destructive federal policies and shield those harmed by them. Whether supporting nonprofits, protecting federal workers, or defending immigrant communities– we made clear that Maryland puts our people first.

Enacting Priority Legislation

It’s a privilege to serve as Vice Chair of what President Ferguson calls the “workhorse” of the Senate– the Energy, Education, and the Environment Committee. Of 1,759 bills introduced, my committee heard 541. Of the 27 bills I sponsored, 16 passed both chambers. Three have already been signed into law by Gov. Wes Moore!

I’ll have more for you soon– after I catch up on 90 days of sleep.

I look forward to being back in the community,

enjoying events and meetings around town!
