Prohibiting Bait & Switch at Gas Stations
Have you ever stopped at a gas station and been surprised when you saw the final cost?

Enhancing Our Emergency Technology
Last week, my bills SB 686, “Carl Henn’s Law,” and SB 424, were heard by the Senate Finance Committee. These proposals would update our 9-1-1 call centers and require that analyses be more frequent, standardized, and shared with key stakeholders.
Among the witnesses who testified was Carol Henn, Carl’s widow. She spoke eloquently about the day her husband was struck by lightning at a Rockville park. Carl’s friends frantically called 9-1-1 for help but received only busy signals. Updating our emergency centers as technology develops will ensure that we can meet the needs of our residents.

Different Issues Every Day
As you may recall, I serve on the Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee. A large part of my work in the Senate involves listening to testimony on a wide range of topics. Our hearings generally begin at 1:00pm and last until well past dinnertime (or later!). We consider legislation related to education policy; business regulations; election law; energy management; environmental protection; ethics rules; liquor control; local government; and veterans affairs, to name a few. Hearings are streamed live if you’re curious to hear more.
