June 14, 2026

As you surely know, it’s time to VOTE!! I am supporting incumbent Congressmembers April McClain Delaney and Jamie Raskin (and Sheriff Max Uy) for reelection. Here’s information about some of my recommendations for new folks… and the ways you can make your voice heard in our Primary elections:

My Choice for our new County Executive:

I know and like all three Councilmembers running for Exec.

But to me, it’s not even close– Councilmember Andrew Friedson is thoughtful, hard-working, collaborative, and has a vision that is both progressive and pragmatic. Endorsed by SEVEN MoCo State Senators (as well as retired teachers, the firefighters, police officers, and others), Andrew is the partner we need to bring back State funding and enact policies that help us in Annapolis.

I hope you’ll join me in voting for Andrew Friedson!

My Choice for Our new County Councilmember:

Councilmember Sidney Katz is retiring and believes (as I do!) that Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman is the right choice to succeed him. I find it noteworthy that Jud has also been endorsed by Rockville’s Mayor and every Rockville Councilmember legally allowed to engage–against their Rockville Council colleague who is opposing him.

Please join me in voting for Jud Ashman!

At-Large County Council

There are two especially impressive at-large County Council candidates:

Scott Goldberg and Karla Silvestre. I have recorded episodes of “Kibbitzing with Kagan” with each of them. Perhaps you’ll want to subscribe and watch them on my YouTube channel (or find them on Spotify or Apple Podcast) before you vote!

Early Voting

Early Voting runs through Thursday, June 18, 7am-8pm.

You can vote at any vote at any polling location in the County.

Vote by Mail

Ballots must be postmarked on or before June 23rd, Election Day,

or (even better!) placed in an official drop-off box by 8pm, when polls close.

Be sure to use the version labeled “Replacement Ballot.”

In-Person Voting

Polls will be open on Tuesday, June 23 from 7am-8pm.

You must go to your assigned voting location.

REGISTRATION:

In order to cast a full ballot in Maryland’s Primary elections, you must be affiliated with a Political Party. (If you are Unaffiliated, you may only vote for School Board.) If you are not yet registered to vote, you may go to a polling location

during Early Voting or on Election Day, register, affiliate, and vote.

NOTE: This legislative session, I tried (AGAIN!) to make it easier for Unaffiliated voters to register with the Political Party of their choice. Our Governor recently came out in support of this concept. You can email me if you want to help advocate for this important “Ballot Access” law in the future!

Thanks for reading and considering my choices. See you at the polls!

Best,

Cheryl
Cheryl C. Kagan
State Senator, District 17
(Gaithersburg & Rockville)

PS: In these crazy times, we need Democratic Party leaders who will work hard and help us get things done! You may have gotten a mailer from a woman using ancient photos and implying that our beloved Congressman Jamie Raskin has endorsed her. It’s not true!!!

Along with my fabulous Delegates– Julie Palakovich CarrJoe Vogel, and Ryan Spiegel, I STRONGLY encourage you to vote for Denise Henderson and Jayson Spiegel for District 17. Jovy Lopez also lives in our district and has proven himself to be effective. PLEASE vote all the way down the ballot for these Democratic leaders!
