In these crazy times, when elections and democracy are threatened, it is important that we all speak out and stay engaged. There are so many ways to vote– choose the one that works best for you!

Early Voting

I wanted to be sure you knew that Early Voting begins tomorrow for our Primary Elections. Through next Thursday, June 18 between 7:00am-8:00pm, you can cast your ballot in person at the Early Voting site most convenient to you.

Mail-In Voting

Due to an error by our Minnesota vendor, some voters received the wrong ballot.

• The State Board of Elections communicated with affected voters
• Replacement ballots were mailed (at the vendor’s expense!)
• Use the one clearly labeled “Replacement Ballot”

After you’ve completed your ballot, you can either return it by mail (postage paid) or deliver it to any official ballot drop-off box. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked on or before June 23rd.

Election Day

Many of us prefer the tradition of voting in person on Election Day, Tuesday, June 23. Polls will be open from 7:00am-8:00pm. Click here to confirm your home precinct polling place.

Before casting your ballot, I hope you will take time to research the candidates and issues. This election is especially important, because we will be choosing a new County Executive, four at-large County Councilmembers, a new District 3 Councilmember, and other State and local leaders. Those elected will serve four-year terms and help shape our future.

As Vice Chair of the committee that handles all election legislation, I have full confidence that our elections will be accurate, transparent, and well-run despite the vendor errors and resulting confusion. I hope you will be a part of it– every election matters and every vote counts!

PS: If you know someone who is not yet registered, Maryland law allows you to register and vote on the same day (whether during Early Voting or on Election Day).

PPS: The Trump Administration is challenging our mail-in voting. The Supreme Court is expected to rule as soon as this week as to whether mail-in ballots may be accepted after Election Day. In light of the potential threats to our election laws, I just sponsored and passed SB949 to reaffirm that mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day must be counted regardless of any federal decisions. Please return your ballot as soon as possible!
