Dear Friend:

What a week!

In addition to everything you’ll read about in this email, I was honored to interview American Hero and Civil Rights Activist Dion Diamond following a screening of the documentary “Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round” at the Avalon Theater in D.C.. I hope you’ll go see the movie to learn about the protests that led to the desegregation of Glen Echo Park in my conversation with Mr. Diamond.

Signing More Bills

On Tuesday, Gov. Wes Moore signed six of the sixteen bills I passed this year into law. In addition to five more of my election bills, the “Nonprofit Navigator” has now been established. This priority bill creates a one-stop resource to share grant information; resolve contract issues; and represent nonprofit interests across State agencies. In these stressful times, our nonprofits are needed more than ever.

Celebrating in Gaithersburg

When the Senate is not in session, I can spend more time in our community. I was shocked and deeply humbled to be featured on the plaque at the renovated patio at CaringMatters (formerly Hospice Caring). And, I spoke at the ribbon-cutting for a newly renovated affordable housing community in Gaithersburg.

Last Call…

The application deadline for my Senatorial Scholarships is Thursday, May 15, at 5pm. Any undergraduate and graduate student in District 17 who is passionate about their education and our community should apply at CherylKagan.org/scholarships.

Please help spread the word!

Reading in Gaithersburg

Join me next Saturday, May 17 at the Gaithersburg Book Festival in Bohrer Park. The event is free, and there is free parking. I’m looking forward to interviewing author Megan Doney about her novel, Unarmed: An American Educator’s Memoir.

Hearing from You

I hope you’ll join Dels. Julie Palkovich Carr, Ryan Spiegel, Joe Vogel and me in person at the District 17 Town Hall next Sunday, May 18, from 5:30-7pm. Please register here.

Making Our Voices Heard

Along with other elected Democrats, I spoke at a Rockville rally to protest the first 100 awful days of the “Trump/Musk” Administration. Thanks to the Montgomery County Democratic Party for organizing this event. We must stay vigilant and outspoken about their egregious and destructive actions and policies that inflict damage on our traditions, institutions, and neighbors.

P.S. Congratulations to two women I admire, Del. Julie Palakovich Carr and Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton. Both were included in this years Top 100 Women! Their dedication, effectiveness, and service make a real difference. I look forward to them joining me in the “Circle of Excellence” in a few more years.
